Seal Cove boy's death leaves community in mourning, shock
RNC says cause of Zachary Michael Tobin's death is still unknown
A community in the Conception Bay South town of Seal Cove is trying to come to terms with the death of a teenager from the community.
Zachary Michael Tobin, 15, was unresponsive when emergency personnel and the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary arrived at a home in the Indian Pond Estates area 11:30 p.m. Friday
The boy was taken to the Janeway Children's Hospital in St. John's where he was pronounced dead.
Since Tobin's death, there has been an outpouring of support for his family by friends, classmates and community organizations.
Tobin was a student at Queen Elizabeth Regional High in Foxtrap.
In an online obituary, the Tobin family thanked emergency staff at the Janeway Children's Hospital, paramedics, the C.B.S. fire department as well as the RNC.
The family has asked that donations be made to the Newfoundland and Labrador Down Syndrome Society in lieu of flowers.
A crisis response team were scheduled to return to the high school on Sunday afternoon. Grief counsellors had been at the school on Saturday afternoon to assist students.
The cause of the boy's death has not been confirmed, pending an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
