Several cars off the road during rainy morning commute on Avalon
Police on the Avalon Peninsula said rain likely led to a number of accidents Monday morning.
There were reports of at least four separate crashes on the Trans-Canada Highway and Outer Ring Road near St. John's.
In one incident, a single vehicle flipped over on the Trans-Canada Highway near Mount Pearl, which police said appears to be weather-related.
A red hatchback car was seen overturned in the median of the TCH near Donovans Industrial Park just after 7 a.m.
The lone female driver was unhurt and police and tow trucks were at the scene by 7:30.
It was the third accident on the same stretch of road in the last few weeks.
Then, there was another single-vehicle crash on the Outer Ring Road near Team Gushue Highway just an hour later.
A tow truck driver was seen loading a damaged sedan onto the back of his truck just after 8 a.m., but police said the driver of the car was gone when they arrived.
It's not clear if there were any injuries.
Other accidents were reported on the TCH near Hodgewater Line as well as on Veterans Memorial Highway
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was warning drivers on Monday to be extra cautious when driving during heavy rain.
