Teenager dead in Shea Heights drowning, RNC confirm

Police have confirmed that a teenage boy drowned Monday at a popular summer swimming spot in the Shea Heights area of St. John's.

Police have confirmed that a teenage boy drowned Monday at a popular swimming spot in the Shea Heights area of St. John's.

The tragedy occurred around 2 p.m. in the afternoon.

The 14-year-old, who is from Shea Heights, was swimming with friends at the site known locally as Punch Bowl Pond, off Blackhead Road.

Paramedics performed CPR on the teen when they arrived at the scene, but he was later pronounced dead at hospital.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
