Fuel tanker spill on Dempster Highway contained to roadway
No diesel entered the ditch, says Environment Yukon
A fuel spill from a tanker that overturned on the Dempster Highway was contained to the roadway, says the Yukon government.
The "pup trailer" — rear tanker of the truck — was carrying 13,000 litres of diesel when it overturned north of Eagle Plains, Yukon on Tuesday afternoon.
Environment Yukon says about 200 litres of diesel leaked onto the highway, but none entered the ditch. It says the tanker has been pumped out.
The road north of Eagle Plains reopened Wednesday evening. It had been closed due to blowing snow. There is now a blizzard warning in effect in the area for Friday.
This is the second truck rollover on the Dempster Highway in recent months. A truck carrying 43,000 litres of propane rolled over on the Dempster Highway in December.
