Igalaaq host Rassi Nashalik to sign off at end of March
Has hosted CBC North's Inuktitut-language newscast since it began in 1995
Rassi Nashalik, host of Igalaaq, CBC North’s Inuktitut supper-hour TV news program, announced her upcoming retirement on Friday evening's broadcast.
Nashalik, who was anchored Igalaaq since its inception in 1995, will retire March 31.
“It has been extremely gratifying for me to help unilingual people in Nunavut and other areas understand what is happening across the North and other areas of the world,” she said.
She said she plans on spending more time with her husband and her two children.
Nashalik is originally from Pangnirtung, Nunavut, and moved to Yellowknife in 1978. She worked as an interpreter/translator and was head of Inuit Language Services for the N.W.T. government prior to the creation of Nunavut.
CBC North will announce the new host of Igalaaq in the coming weeks.
