An Inuvik, N.W.T., man and his dog are safe after a fire at the man's trailer home Thursday morning.

The fire department says the fire started underneath the home at around 7:30 a.m.

Fire crews were able to get the flames under control within an hour.

Jim Sawkins, Inuvik's fire chief, says the trailer's occupant won't be able to return to his home, but is staying with family.

"There may be a need in the community very shortly for housing and for trying to put some clothing and everything back in the resident's hands," said Sawkins.
