Yukon MP Ryan Leef had good intentions when he congratulated his sister and her husband on their 10th anniversary during members' statements in the House of Commons ... until he forgot the name of one of their children.

Leef, who made headlines last week as the lone Conservative MP to vote for a public inquiry into missing and murdered aboriginal women, stood in the House to congratulate his sister Becky and her husband on their 10th wedding anniversary, when he appeared to have a sudden loss of memory.

"I hope Jared and, uh, oh my goodness... the other one... Oh my God... Both of them, have made you breakfast in bed," he said, putting his hands on his head. "Happy anniversary."

Leef's gaffe brought levity to a contentious day in the House, where the government's Nutrition North program was debated at length, but it was MP Andrew Scheer, the Speaker of the House of Commons, who had the last word.

"The member may have a period of time when he has to live that one down," he said.
