Star Wars election sign becomes Halifax Twitter sensation
'I'm hoping this is a humorous way of saying, 'People, exercise your right,'' says Jeremy Webb
Halifax actor Jeremy Webb is encouraging people to vote in the upcoming federal election and he's using the words of a grand master of the Jedi order to do so.
"Do. Or do not. There is no try," said Yoda to Luke Skywalker in The Empire Strikes Back.
Webb created a poster about a month ago with those words advocating that people "Elect Yoda," but the real message is for people to get out to the polls and vote on Oct. 19.
"I'm hoping this is a humorous way of saying, 'People, exercise your right,'" said Webb.
Webb had an election sign made and placed it on Bayview Drive two days ago.
The sign has become a hit on Twitter, along with the hashtag #voteyoumust that Webb created.
"It was meant as a little joke, but now it's becoming a serious campaign," he said.
Webb said that one person from Vancouver has even requested a copy of it.
Besides getting people to vote, Webb has one other wish.
"Hopefully, Lucasfilm won't sue me," he said.
