Man got lost after leaving walking trail on island

A Cormorant helicopter was called in to airlift a man from McNabs Island on Thursday night.

The elderly man, who had been accompanied by a younger person and a dog, wandered quite far off one of the island's walking trails, Halifax Fire division commander Lloyd Curry said.

"There's an RCMP officer with him right now. It was determined he could not be brought off by boat."

The man was not injured.

He was located on the northern part of McNabs, Curry said

The Coast Guard cutter Sambro was also brought in to help with the rescue.
