Update Oct. 29, 2024: Nova Scotia's Serious Incident Response Team found no reasonable grounds to believe that a member of the RCMP committed a criminal offence in connection with the fatal crash on Feb. 26, 2024. An autopsy found the cause of death to be multiple blunt force traumas and the manner of death an accident.

Nova Scotia's Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) will be investigating a deadly crash that happened after police attempted to stop a vehicle in Hammonds Plains on Monday evening.

According to the RCMP, at around 7:05 p.m., they were trying to conduct a traffic stop on a  black GMC pickup truck in the 1800 block of Hammonds Plains Road "in relation to ongoing investigations by Halifax Regional Police and RCMP."

The truck sped off and turned onto Glen Arbour Way. Not long after, the same truck crashed on Glen Arbour Way near Sky Crescent. Police say the truck left the road, hit a power pole and ended up in a ditch.

The driver of the truck, a 22-year-old man from Bedford, was found outside of the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Glen Arbour Way was closed for several hours, but has since reopened.

Police have handed the investigation over to SIRT, a group that independently investigates all serious incidents that come from action of police in Nova Scotia regardless of if there is an allegation of wrongdoing.
