All-puppet band Feltworth comes to town for Juno weekend
Don't expect children's songs Friday night at Le Shoppe in Gatineau
There's no Juno category for Best Musical Performance By a Puppet — but if there were, Feltworth would likely have it locked down.
- A Tribe Called Red, Belly, among 6 local acts up for Junos
- Lack of gender diversity at Junos a sign of bigger issues in Canadian music
The fab four — fab standing for "fabric," in this case — is playing Friday night at Le Shoppe in Gatineau as part of the Juno-related Playlist Live: Canada 150 concert.
But don't expect children's songs. As Feltworth told Jessa Runcman on CBC's Ottawa Morning, they've left performing for the preschool set far, far behind.
"I think we were sort of doing a disservice, really, coming out there and being contemptuous of playing in front of a bunch of brats," said Dezi Feltworth, a fluffy pink rabbit and the band's main songwriter.
"[Keyboard player Maurice Katzenburd] was also quite displeased that we weren't allowed to have any alcohol in the rider," added drummer monkey Cozy Balboa.
"I think that was the final thing that pushed him over the edge."
There's no doubt their sound these days definitely leans more toward the indie rock spectrum.
"We want to make rock music. We want to make the music that we know and love," said Feltworth.
"I don't think that we should have to play It's Not Easy Being Green or The Rainbow Connection — both of which I love."
