Gatineau Olympiques sexual assault investigation ends in Quebec City

One of two investigations into the actions of Gatineau junior hockey players won't lead to charges, but another investigation in Gatineau continues, according to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Police in Quebec City have ended an investigation into an alleged case of sexual assault from January 2014 involving four players from the Gatineau Olympiques, the league said in a statement released on Friday.

Charges won't be laid but reports will be taken seriously, the QMJHL added.

Gatineau police continue to investigate a reported incident at a Gatineau Boston Pizza late at night on Feb. 20, the league added.

The Olympiques also launched an internal investigation into a reported "public sex act" at the restaurant on Boulevard des Grives. Boston Pizza has refused to comment on the report.

The Quebec league continues to work with Gatineau police on the police investigation and awaits the results, the release said.

Players need to be 'more responsible for their actions'

As for the allegations in Quebec City, the league said they consider them "serious" and "this type of behaviour should at no time be trivialized."

"It’s important that our players become more responsible for their actions," QMJHL Commissioner Gilles  Courteau was quoted as saying in the statement.

"There is no doubt that parents and the League have an important role to play in this regard. The league is willing to participate in governmental consultations on this issue or any other forum in order to improve its Player Support Program. Providing player supervision and support on and off the ice remains our number one priority," the statement said.

The QMJHL's Player Support Program was launched in 2008 to help players and their families manage challenges in the players' personal lives, the statement added.
