NCC sells Ottawa bike-share service to US-based CycleHop
Ottawa's Capital Bixi service has been sold to US-based CycleHop by the National Capital Commission.
Plan was always to start up bike-share then sell to private sector, NCC says
US-based CycleHop will run Ottawa’s bike-share service as it takes over from the National Capital Commission, the NCC announced Thursday.
The sale by the NCC to CycleHop took effect Thursday and CycleHop, as the new owner and operator, has promised to double the program within the next few years.
The bike-share service currently has 250 bicycles at 25 different locations.
The NCC always intended to sell the service since its inception, but only after it had the bike-share was launched and stable.
CycleHop is an 18-year-old company that already serves American cities Orlando, Tampa, Phoenix, Atlanta and Louisville.
