English-language schools in Ottawa will be closed Monday in the aftermath of tornadoes that hit the city on Friday evening.

In an announcement posted online, the Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) cited extensive damage across the city as well as continuing power outages as factors in the closures.

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) also announced city-wide closures for Monday.

No before- or after-school care will be available at schools and all extracurricular activities will also be cancelled.

At least two schools in the Outaouais will also be closed tomorrow as cleanup from Friday's storm continues.

Hadley Junior and Philemon Wright High School in Gatineau announced today that it would be closed on Monday due to tornado damage.

L'École Secondaire Mont-Bleu, where a fire broke out Friday after the storm, announced today that the school would be closed between Sept. 24 and Sept. 28.

The University of Ottawa and Carleton University said classes and regular activities will be held as scheduled this week.

Algonquin College will be open tomorrow for all classes and regular activities.

Ottawa's French-language Catholic school board announced Sunday night that six schools would be closed Monday: Terre-des-Jeunes, Edouard-Bond, Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau, Pierre-Savard, Sainte-Kateri and Laurier-Carrière.

In a letter to parents on Sunday, school administrators said most schools don't appear to be damaged but a handful were still without power.

All French-language public schools will be open Monday except for Omer-Deslauriers and Charlotte-Lemieux.
