Ten-day-old Lillian O'Connor needs a heart transplant if she is going to survive more than a few months, say doctors in Toronto.
Ten-day-old Lillian O'Connor needs a heart transplant if she is going to survive more than a few months, say doctors in Toronto.
Lillian was born to Melanie Bernard and Kevin O'Connor of Stratford, P.E.I. Her heart has a hole in it, and she also suffers from truncus arteriosus, which leaves her blood short on oxygen, her family told the Toronto Sun.
The baby is breathing on her own in the intensive care unit of the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. The hospital's transplant centre said it is looking for a heart through transplant programs around North America.
Surgery is not a viable option for this condition, doctors said, and the baby will survive only weeks to months without a transplant.
