P.E.I. building sectors slips after strong start

After posting good numbers in the first two months of the new year, P.E.I.'s building sector stumbled in March, levelling out the gains in comparing the first quarters of 2016 and 2017.

After posting good numbers in the first two months of the new year, P.E.I.'s building sector stumbled in March, levelling out the gains in comparing the first quarters of 2016 and 2017.

The value of building permits was up 5.4 per cent in the first quarter of 2017 compared to the first three months of 2016.

March was a down month, with the value down 10.3 per cent from February and 20.1 per cent from the previous March.

The non-residential sector continues to hold up the industry, with residential permits actually down 6.1 per cent, while non-residential is up 48.3 per cent.
