Ramjattan re-elected as chief of Lennox Island First Nation
New chief says she wants input from band members, will hold referendums
Matilda Ramjattan has been re-elected as chief of the Lennox Island First Nation on P.E.I..
She received 144 votes on Saturday. Timmy Bernard received 87 and Stevie Bernard 79.
Janet Banks and Gerry Thomas are the new on-reserve councillors, replacing Debbie Bernard and Stevie Bernard.
Mary Moore-Phillips was elected as the off-reserve councillor.
Ramjattan said she is thrilled to be offered a second three-year mandate, but said it will be a "group effort."

"I can lead, but I don't want to make all the decisions because I want a happy healthy community," she said.
Ramjattan said referendums will be held on issues such as matrimonial real property, land designations, and the length of the six-week election campaigns.
She and Moore-Phillips will begin building a database of off-reserve members to be included in the referendums.
"I'm looking forward to picking up where I left off with the work that needs to be done," she said.
