Island students getting lesson on dangers of impaired driving through MADD campaign
MADD Canada will deliver 30 presentations in P.E.I. schools this year
MADD Canada launched its provincial school campaign for P.E.I. on Monday.
Students at Charlottetown Rural were the first to take part. They saw a presentation that includes a short film on the impact and consequences of impaired driving.
Dawn Regan, chief operating officer for MADD Canada, hopes it made an impression.
"We hope that this message is something that kids take away, that they learn what to do when they're faced with impaired driving — that they make the smart choice and not drive impaired."
She also said people should never get into a car with an impaired driver, always plan ahead and report a suspected impaired driver.
"If we do all those things we will reduce impaired driving down to zero."
MADD Canada will deliver 30 presentations to Island students this year, with funding from the Liquor Control Commission of P.E.I.
RCMP on P.E.I. made 10 impaired driving arrests in November, and 222 charges have been laid so far this year.
