The pool at Credit Union Place in Summerside is getting a climbing wall, city officials say.

The 5-metre-high aquatics climbing wall, manufactured by Kersplash, will cost $20,000, plus installation. It includes an overhang of approximately one metre to allow re–entry into the water.

We are always looking for ways to increase the use of our recreational facilities.— Bill Martin, mayor of Summerside

"By combining the two great sports of climbing and swimming, an aquatic climbing wall adds lots of fun and fitness through the development of strength, co-ordination, cardiovascular and muscle endurance," said a written release.

"It also provides participants with positive risk-taking and creative problem-solving opportunities."

The climbing wall is scheduled to be installed during the pool's annual maintenance closure in September.

"We are always looking for ways to increase the use of our recreational facilities," said Summerside Mayor Bill Martin.

"This will be a fantastic addition to an already state–of–the–art city facility — I can't wait to try it," he said.
