Tyne Valley residents without a doctor urged to speak up

Paula Biggar, MLA for Tyne Valley-Linkletter, is asking people to speak up if they don't have a family doctor. For about two years, the Tyne Valley Health Clinic has only had one doctor and Biggar says the number of people currently registered for a doctor doesn't reflect how many actually need one.

MLA believes there are many people in need of a family doctor who aren't on the registry list

Paula Biggar, MLA for Tyne Valley-Linkletter and the minister of Transportation, Infrastructure and Energy, is asking people in her constituency to speak up if they don't have a family doctor.

For about two years, the Tyne Valley Health Clinic has only had one doctor and Biggar says the number of people currently registered for a doctor doesn't reflect how many actually need one.

She's urging people to sign up on the patient registry to make the case for a second physician.

"Now the challenge is to show that should another doctor show interest in coming to Tyne Valley, that we have enough patients to warrant two full-time practices in Tyne Valley at the clinic," said Biggar.

Biggar says the province is currently looking for a doctor to fill the position, but she hopes as more people register, the need will be even more evident.

Anyone looking to register for a family doctor can go online or call 1-855-563-2101.
