A wild duck who built a nest at a Charlottetown garden centre has successfully hatched five ducklings.

The duck, named Lucy by garden centre staff at the Superstore, built her nest on a table full of Spanish lavender. As of Wednesday, five of her six eggs had hatched. The sixth egg could still hatch in the next day or so.

Staff have roped off the area to give Lucy and her family some privacy.

Wildlife officials expect Lucy will move her ducklings to a pond nearby within a week. The closest water is at Agriculture Canada's experimental farm, just across University Avenue.
