Empty Our Shelters: Provincial event being held to find homes for pets

The goal of the event is to find homes for 400 animals across the province. This year there are more cats than dogs in animal shelters.

Animal shelters across the province are banding together to try to find homes and adoptees for 400 animals this weekend.

From Aug. 19 to 21, humane societies across the province are offering lowered adoption rates in a bid to relieve some pressure felt by shelters.

This is the peak time of incoming animals in Saskatchewan, several litters of kittens and puppies have been born, but this year there are more cats than dogs.

The Regina Humane Society has 225 animals they are currently looking after, which is nearing their limit.

For the weekend, there is no adult cat adoption fee, kitten adoption fees are $50, and dog adoption fees are $80.
