RM of Sherwood elects new reeve
Previous reeve ordered out of office after conflict-of-interest investigation
The Rural Municipality of Sherwood has a new reeve to replace the one ordered out of office by the provincial government earlier this year.
Voters elected Jeff Poissant in a by-election yesterday, with 328 of the 481 votes cast.
He replaces Kevin Eberle, who was removed from office in February after a scathing report found serious conflicts of interest and violations of the public trust.
The investigation was ordered by the provincial government in the summer of 2014, to look into allegations around a proposed development called Wascana Village.
Eberle claimed he had recused himself from any RM decisions involving Wascana Village, but the report found his behaviour was "highly unethical" by promoting the project behind the scenes.
The report said Eberle stood to gain roughly 58 million dollars on land sales and profits from the Wascana Village project.
