A number of vigils are being held across the country, including in Saskatchewan, to remember murdered and missing Indigenous women today.

The Sisters in Spirit gatherings are held each Oct. 4 by family members of the missing and murdered, as well as other concerned citizens.

Last year's gatherings pushed for a federal inquiry, which has since been announced.

The Native Women's Association of Canada tracks the vigils on its website, including those in Saskatchewan. It says the gatherings have grown in number from 11 more than a decade ago, to more than 200 last year.
