The mystery of what happened to the Visionaries statue is no more, thanks to the (eventual) honesty of the person involved in the crash.

According to police, the person responsible for knocking over Leslie Potter's well-known stone statue downtown came forward and turned himself in last week. The individual turned out to be a driver with a learner's permit.

After crashing into the statue, the driver left the scene and did not immediately report the accident.

The crash took place on Feb. 22. The student driver will be fined for the accident, as per the Traffic Safety Act, police said.

City officials are unsure if the statue can be repaired.

The three tall stone figures of Visionaries had stood on the corner of 2nd Avenue and 21st Street since 1994.
