Signed, sealed, delivered: stamp club struts its stuff

It's not the ubiquitous hobby it once was, but some Thunder Bay residents are still stuck on stamp collecting

Thousands of stamps were on display this past weekend at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery, for the Lakehead Stamp Club's annual exhibition.

The club, which was founded in 1947, holds monthly meetings, but only puts on a display for the public once a year.

Norm Denis, past president of the club, was there showing off his extensive collection of whale stamps.

Denis has been a member of the club (of which his father was a founding member), since 1950.

"Most everybody when I grew up had a little stamp collection," he said. "I had so much fun with stamps growing up."

Over the years, he's acquired themed stamp collections depicting everything from flowers to wildcats. One of his favourites is a collection of 15,000 airplane stamps.

"You just get into it, and it just rolls," he said.
