A Webbwood woman has been fined $2,000 for the careless discharge of a firearm after an accidental shooting near Cartier last fall.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, the woman was a passenger in a side-by-side ATV when she noticed a grouse.

She loaded her shotgun while still seated.

When she tried to exit the ATV, the gun went off, shooting the driver in the leg just below the knee.

The victim required treatment at hospital to tend to his injuries.

The woman received a two-year hunting suspension and must complete the Ontario Hunter Education Course before being able to purchase another hunting licence.

She also had to forfeit her firearm to the Crown.
