CBC Ontario journalists and programs win 10 RTDNA awards

CBC journalists and programs in Toronto, Ottawa, Sudbury and Thunder Bay received a total of 10 RTDNA awards.

1 award comes from the RTDNA in the U.S:

  • An Edward R. Murrow regional award to CBC News Toronto with Anne-Marie Mediwake and Dwight Drummond for breaking news coverage of the attack on Parliament Hill and the death of Hamilton reservist Nathan Cirillo.

9 of the awards were handed out at a Saturday awards luncheon for RTDNA Canada's Central Region:

  • Radio News Information Program award for "Shooting in the Capital: The Morning After" on CBC Radio's Ontario Morning.
     
  • Radio In-depth/Investigative award to CBC Sudbury's Kate Rutherford for "In the Dark," her series on Hydro One billing issues.
     
  • Radio Diversity award to Mary Wiens and CBC Toronto's Metro Morning for "Unlikely Friendship: The Middle East Conflict," the story of a camp for Israeli and Palestinian teens.
     
  • Radio Continuing Coverage award to Mike Crawley, the CBC's Queen's Park reporter, for his stories on problems with the province's welfare computer system.
     
  • Short Radio Feature award for a Small or Medium Market to CBC Sudbury's Jason Turnbull for "Blind Santa."
     
  • Best Radio Newscast award in a Medium Market to CBC Thunder Bay.
     
  • Radio Sports award for a Small or Medium Market to CBC Sudbury's Jenifer Norwell for "Soccer vs. Hockey."
     
  • Long Radio Feature in a Large Market to CBC Ottawa's Laurie Fagan for "Palliative Sedation."
     
  • Long Radio Feature in a Small or Medium Market to CBC Sudbury's Markus Schwabe for "Vale Bees."
