The Toronto Police Homicide Unit is searching for a small silver-grey four-door car after a shooting Friday night in Scarborough left two people dead.

The shooting happened around 9:50 p.m. in a parking lot at Ellesmere Road and Victoria Park Avenue.

Police say four people were in a Honda Pilot SUV that pulled up to the LCBO in the area. Two of the vehicle's occupants, a man and a woman, left the car and went into the LCBO to make a purchase. The man had been sitting in the back seat of the vehicle and the woman was in the front. Two other people remained in the vehicle.

When the man and the woman returned and were getting back into the SUV, a man approached the male occupant from the passenger side of the vehicle and started to fire at him.

The man was shot as well as one of the women who was sitting in the back seat. The other man and other woman in the vehicle were not injured.

Police say the man appears to be the target of the shooting.

"I can't say whether the female was targeted or whether she received some collateral gunfire. She was deceased in the vehicle," said Toronto Police Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux. "And he was deceased a short time afterwards after arriving at hospital."

He said the shooter was with at least one other man and fled in a small silver-grey vehicle driving southbound on Victoria Park.

The victims have been identified as Joseph Anzolona, 26, and Cynthia Mullapudi, 24.

Close range

Police said the shooting was at close range — so close that there are no bullet holes in the vehicle and the windows were not damaged by the gunfire.

Police are looking for more video from security footage in the area in an attempt to identify the shooter.

They said they do not know what the relationship is between the two people who were killed and the shooter.
