A 38-year-old man is in hospital after getting shot in the leg while standing outside a townhouse in Etobicoke early this morning, according to Toronto police.

Staff Sgt. Brian Kay said officers received a call about the shooting on Scarlettwood Court in the area of Scarlett Road and Lawrence Avenue West at about 3:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Kay said the man had been shot in his leg and possibly his foot. His injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening.

Two suspects were seen running away from the scene and may have gotten into a vehicle, according to Kay.

Police say the man's girlfriend, who was with him just prior to the shooting, had gone into a townhouse when she heard the gunfire. She came out and he was on the ground.

"We don't know if he was targeted," Kay said.
