Imperial Oil fire in Sarnia concerns mayor Mike Bradley
A fire at Imperial Oil in Sarnia was extinguished quickly Tuesday night.
City and company firefighters doused the flames, which were contained within the building.
Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley says there's always a concern about aging industrial plants.
"That's always an ongoing issue," he said. "Imperial has been re-investing in their plant in the last number of years, and it would be my hope that that re-investment would continue because that is an issue, that you have to maintain the plants. You have to keep them at the highest level possible."
Bradley says there have been several incidents in Chemical Valley recently, but all were minor.
"These are very complex operations. They run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Times of weather and with other things that happen that there can be incidents," he said. "In this particular case, this was a fairly minor incident in the scheme of things, but we're concerned anytime anything happens in any of these operations."
