Windsor police honour history, fallen officer with special 150th anniversary cruiser

From the vehicle number on its front bumper to the tail lights, a special 150th anniversary cruiser tells the story of Windsor's police service.

The force unveiled a car representing its past and future Tuesday morning.

With the police's anniversary logo emblazoned on the hood, the 2017 Dodge Charger's front end is black with simple lettering to pay homage to police vehicles from the 30s and 40s.

The hood, roof and truck are white, a police cap tip to the cars of the 40s to the 60s, while the crest on the front door area is a call back to the 80s.

The large POLICE lettering along the length of the cruiser is in the style used during the 2000s and the paint job blends to solid white towards the rear to resemble police cars on the road today.

The tail lamps have "150th Anniversary" written in reflective lettering, according to Windsor police, and anniversary badges can be found on the dash, trunk lid and hood.

Even the vehicle number is intentional — 6744, the badge number of Senior Constable John Atkinson, was specifically selected to honour the officer killed in the line of duty in 2006.

The anniversary cruiser will be on display at several events during the Windsor Police anniversary celebration week in may.
