Disney has released the first teaser trailer for the new short Frozen Fever Wednesday, revealing a new song and updated looks for some of the franchise's favourite characters.

The 35 second clip shows Queen Elsa, Olaf and Kristoff back in the Kingdom of Arendelle, preparing a special birthday party for Princess Anna.

"Check this out," exclaims Kristoff before Elsa is seen leading a group of children in a song about making the day "a perfect day."

On first listen, the tune doesn't appear to have the same majesty of the smash single Let it Go from the feature-length Frozen, but it will likely delight fans with its novelty, as will Queen Elsa's new emerald green-gown. Her icy-blue version was the must-have Halloween costume for many little girls last Fall. It even inspired a wedding dress for grown fantasy lovers to wear.

The 2013 film about Arendelle's misunderstood snow queen smashed box office records and became the highest grossing animated film of all time with worldwide sales topping $1.2 billion US. The characters also proved to be a merchandising cash cow for Disney and licence holders.

The animated short Frozen Fever is due in theatres March 13 to play ahead of the new Cinderella remake, starring  Lily James, Hayley Atwell, Helena Bonham Carter.
