Four giant panda cubs were born Monday at a breeding centre in China, state media reported.

Panda Eryatou gave birth to two female cubs, while Jiaozi is themother of a male and a female, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Thebirths atthe Chengdu Giant Panda BreedingCentre in Sichuan bringthis year's total14. Nine were born at Chengdu and the other five were born at the Wolong Giant Panda Nature Reserve.

Multiplesame-day birthsfor the endangered species are rare, with only 34 panda cubs born in captivity in 2006.

According to the World Wildlife Federation, there are only1,600 pandas living in the wild. Xinhau reported an additional 210 pandas have been bred in captivity.
