Bosnian Croats wanted on war crimes charges turn themselves in

Six Bosnian Croats wanted on war crimes charges have turned themselves in to the International Criminal Court.

Six former wartime Bosnian Croat officials have been taken into custody on war crimes charges at the International War Crimes Tribunal in the Netherlands.

Gen. Milivoj Petkovic, retired general Slobodan Praljak, Jadranko Prilic, Valentin Coric, Bruno Stojic and Bersilav Pusic flew from Zagreb to Amsterdam on a commercial flight before surrendering to authorities in The Hague.

They face charges of ethnic cleansing during the early 1990s Bosnian war.

Their surrender comes as Croatia tries to advance its bid to join the European Union by co-operating with the tribunal.

Two other Croatian generals surrendered to the tribunal in March.

The indictments against the six include responsibility for the murder, rape and deportation of Bosnian Muslims by Bosnian Croat forces during the conflict.
