GG Michaëlle Jean praises Chinese culture
Gov. Gen. Michaëlle Jean's visit to China marks 40 years of relations between that country and Canada.
Gov. Gen. Michaëlle Jean spoke to students at Shanghai University on the second day of her official visit to China Wednesday.
Her visit marks the 40th anniversary of relations between Canada and China. In her speech to about 250 students, Jean made references to human rights, the importance of education and her respect for Chinese culture.
"The contributions made by our fellow citizens of Chinese origin are immense and affect every aspect of our joint success and they are celebrated by Canadians from coast to coast across our great country," Jean said.
She will celebrate Canada Day Thursday at the World Expo in Shanghai by leading a Maple Leaf flag-raising ceremony at the event.
Jean will end her visit in Beijing on July 5.
