Why the MMIWG Inquiry uses the word genocide
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he accepts the recommendations of the Inquiry into missing and murdered indigenous women. And that includes the finding that actions have amounted to a genocide. Now, some who've studied genocide up close are concerned about the use of the term in the report. So what's the justification for the Inquiry's use of genocide? For that, the CBC's Andrew Nichols spoke with Fannie Lafontaine. She was the lead author on the Inquiry's 43-page legal analysis, and is the Canada Research Chair on International Criminal Justice and Human Rights.
