As it Happened: The Archive Edition - The Four-Legged Episode

Sarah Nathan lives in an all-female household. So when dozens of pairs of men's underpants and starting showing up on the floors of her home, she knew something was amiss.

The culprit, it turns out, is Nathan's cat, Brigit. As she tells As it Happens host Carol Off, it's not the first time Brigit has taken to cat burgling.

"We moved house about a year ago, and in the last house she brought home all sorts of things. But this time, it's just one particular kind of men's underwear," says Nathan.

Brigit has a preference for patterned boxer briefs, and within a few months had brought home more than 30 pairs of the unmentionables.

Nathan is surprised that no one has come forward to claim the missing undergarments.

"I actually put a flyer in my street, thinking clearly I'm going to get a phone call that night from someone saying 'oh my goodness, thank you, that's where my underpants are going.' But nothing," she says with exasperation.

Brigit has also brought home more than 100 socks.

The cat's thievery went viral after Nathan posted the story on Facebook. The tale also made it to Reddit, which is where Nathan may have found a clue about the owner of the missing underwear.

"We were reading the thread underneath, which was highly entertaining, and someone said: 'Hey! I live on O'Neill Street, and those are my socks!' And then he posted a photograph of his feet with the odd sock of the sock that was in my photo," Nathan says with a laugh.

Nathan says she's now trying find the owner by searching Brigit's stomping grounds on O'Neill Street.
