The Jerry Cans on the importance of Northern artists supporting each other
The Jerry Cans have become synonymous with Nunavut music and have helped pave the way for many other artists in their community. Their work has led to them starting their own record label, Aakuluk Music, which has proved to be a launching point for many Northern musicians.
Recorded at our q live in Iqaluit show, The Jerry Cans performed two songs for us and lead throat singer, Nancy Mike, joined Tom Power on stage to talk about the importance of Northern artists supporting each other.
"I want to prove how much talent there is in Nunavut, but not only talent — this is healing, there is healing happening in this room right now and it's amazing to see," said Mike.
Below, watch The Jerry Cans perform their songs Makiliqta and Atauttikkut from the Tisi room of Inuksuk High School in Iqaluit.
