Oscar winner James Ivory on Call Me By Your Name and 60 years of filmmaking
James Ivory made his name as part of Merchant Ivory Productions, writing and directing acclaimed films such as Room With a View, Howard's End, Remains of the Day and Maurice. Now, after more than six decades in the industry, Ivory has finally won his first Oscar for writing the screenplay for the coming-of-age love drama Call Me By Your Name.
Guest host Laurie Brown speaks to Ivory about his Oscar, Call Me By Your Name, and why he has been so adept at bringing repressed love stories to the silver screen.
Ivory stopped by the q studio while he was in town for the Toronto International Film Festival's Books on Film series. You can hear more from him Sunday, April 1, on Writers and Company with Eleanor Wachtel on CBC Radio One.
