The Current for June 24, 2021
Today on The Current:
As parliament enters its summer recess, our national affairs panel discusses a looming election, criticism of Minister of National Defense Harjit Sajjan, and news that hundreds of unmarked graves have been found at the site of a former residential school in Saskatchewan. Matt Galloway talks to Chris Hall, the CBC's national affairs editor and host of The House on CBC Radio; and Kelly Cryderman, a political reporter with the Globe and Mail.
Then, Robin Pitt Taylor had a brief romance with Karen Paul decades ago, before she disappeared from his life without a word. We hear the story of how they reconnected in our documentary The Robin I Knew.
And students will have some stories to tell about this school year — as will their teachers. We talk about how they coped, and how they made sure their students were hanging in there too, with Kyle Berard, principal at Leamington District Secondary School in Ontario; Alison Palmer, who taught Grade 6 online in the Edmonton Public School District for the past year; and Sabrina Jafralie, an ethics teacher at Westmount High School in Montreal.
Plus, Joey Moss, who was born with Down syndrome, was a superstar among fans of the Edmonton Oilers. A school in Edmonton will honour him when it opens next year, by bearing his name.
