Derek Jeter still on comeback trail

New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter will see a doctor next week about his recovery from a broken ankle that has sidelined him since last year's American League Championship Series.

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is set to have his injured ankle examined next week.

Jeter hasn't played this season after breaking his left ankle in the playoffs last year and having surgery. He sustained another fracture during his rehabilitation, and isn't expected back until after the All-Star break in mid-July.

Jeter moved his rehab program on Thursday from New York to the Yankees' minor league complex in Tampa, Fla. He recently had been working out at Yankee Stadium.

The 13-time All-Star turns 39 this month. He will have a CT scan and be examined by Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte N.C. The team captain says he hopes to be cleared to increase his baseball activities.

"Can't do anything different until I see the doctor, so absolutely no news," Jeter said. "I wish I could do more, but I can't until I go to the doctor."
