Watch Canada's best compete at the World Cup in Wuhan, China. The event kicked off with the mixed 10m synchro and mixed team competitions.

"We're really excited," said McKay. "We haven't trained that much together. We just put everything together around three weeks ago."

McKay, from Calgary, and Riendeau, of Montreal, struggled with the compulsory section, sitting in eighth place after two of five dives. But the Canadians moved into third place before edging the Russia pair with their final dive.

"Caeli is an extremely powerful diver," said Riendeau. "She is one of the women who jumps the highest. So for me, doing synchro with her makes the task a little easier to time because she's able to match my height in the dives."
