Wolfpack fleece Rams to remain in 1st place
Toronto winger Adam Higson scores 2 tries in return to lineup
Toronto winger Adam Higson had a try in each half and Ryan Brierly intercepted a Dewsbury pass and ran it nearly the length of the pitch for a score as the Wolfpack defeated the Rams 23-12 in the Betfred Championship on Sunday.
Higson, making his return to the Wolfpack lineup after a groin injury sidelined him, touched down in front of the corner flag twice during a rainy match in West Yorkshire — first after grabbing a one-handed offload from Chase Stanley and later on the receiving end of a deft skip pass from Gareth O'Brien.
Stanley and Reni Maitua scored the Wolfpack's other two tries, while Brierley also kicked a drop goal and a penalty during the game. However, he went 0-for-5 on conversion kicks.
"We're going to throw [Brierley's] kicking boots in the bin," Wolfpack coach Paul Rowley joked after the match.

Toronto stalwart Greg Worthington left with an apparent injury 10 minutes into the match and did not return. Maitua also required help leaving the pitch in the 73rd minute.
The Wolfpack conceded a "bizarre" penalty try on the last play of the game, with O'Brien receiving a yellow card in the process. "I'm not sure I've seen too many of those ... I can only laugh at that one," Rowley said.
"Everybody wants to knock us off, so we're grinding out wins."
Toronto was promoted to English rugby league's second tier this season and currently sit atop the standings with a record of 9-1-1 and a total of 19 points.
Up next for the Wolfpack is a Ladbrokes Challenge Cup showdown with the Barrow Raiders on April 22 at 10 a.m. ET. The team's next league match is April 28 against Halifax RLFC.
CBC Sports will live stream every Toronto Wolfpack game in the Betfred Championship this season.
