How Marie Parent got close to a killer to solve a 1995 Ottawa murder
When Marie Parent met with Brett Morgan in 1995, she wanted to help him find his missing wife. Six weeks later, she exposed him as his wife's killer.
Parent was a private investigator in-training when she found out about Louis Ellis, who went missing from her Ottawa South home. Parent first heard the story when saw Morgan on the news, appealing to the public for help to find "my sweetheart." But when Parent got to know Morgan, she grew suspicious, and worked with detectives Bob Pulfer and John Savage, to wear a wire during her encounters with the suspected killer.
In the second episode of The Detectives this season, actor Janet Kidder brings the Scottish mother of four to life as she goes undercover to solve Ellis's disappearance. In the video above, the real Marie Parent recounts her harrowing experience with getting close to a murderer to bring him to justice.
