B.C. slaying probe aided by U.S. TV show

Police on Vancouver Island are hoping a major U.S. current affairs  program can reinvigorate their investigation into an unsolved killing.

Real estate agent Lindsay Buziak was stabbed to death in 2008 while showing a home in a quiet residential neighbourhood of Saanich, B.C., a suburb of Victoria.

Saanich police have been investigating the killing of Buziak, 24, with little apparent progress for more than two years, so they've agreed to work with the NBC program Dateline.

There have been 800 leads, an offer of reward money, and private investigators have taken a crack at the case, police said. But Buziak's death remains a mystery.

"Unfortunately, we've reached an impasse," Sgt. Dean Jantzen told CBC News. "We've exhausted our investigative leads so far."

Investigators are hoping the audience reach of a major American network will generate tips.

Mystery couple

One of the people the program spoke to was Jason Zailo, Buziak's boyfriend, who described finding her bloodied body.

"She was just lying on her back, not moving, nothing," said Zallo. "So, I went straight to her, I felt her skin."

Investigators said they've cleared Zailo as a suspect. But they are looking for a man and a woman who are believed to have lured Buziak to the vacant house.

Saanich police are still working with a number of theories, including one that the killer thought Buziak knew or had seen something.

There's also a possibility that the murder was a mistake, said Jantzen.
