Deer vs dog in high-speed, 4-legged chase down B.C. highway
'It wasn't a big buck or anything,' owner says
A Prince Rupert man received a shock when a rampaging deer turned an every day dog-walking session into a hot pursuit.
Instead of the deer, it was Lance Clark who was left with that deer-in-the-headlights look after his two pooches were chased down by the angry animal.
Clark says he took his two dogs out for their usual walk down 1st Avenue before things turned completely unusual.
"I just thought I'd let them off-leash for a run down the sidewalk for a bit and they both took off into the bush," he told Daybreak North's Carolina de Ryk.
"They were only in there for about 15 to 20 seconds, and about 40 feet ahead of me they come ripping out of the bush with this deer in hot pursuit."
Clark says it's usually the dogs that do that the chasing, but that the deer didn't seem in the mood to be messed around with.
"I thought the deer was going to charge me and it decided to veer back into the bush. I stood there for a second then called the dogs and was about to put them on the leash and [the deer] came charging out again."
He says the deer eventually relented, and in the end no animal (or human) was hurt.
