CBC's Montreal and Quebec City teams have taken home five Radio Television Digital News Association regional awards for their work on breaking news, features and commentary.

The winners of the annual RTDNA Central region were announced today at a ceremony in Toronto.

Breaking news: Cédrika Provencher

CBC Montreal was recognized for its digital work in breaking news for coverage of the discovery of the remains of long-missing Trois-Rivières girl Cédrika Provencher.

The nine-year-old's body was found by a group of hunters in December, eight years after she went missing while riding her bike.

Best use of new media

For the second year in a row, CBC Montreal was also recognized for its overall website with the Digital Media — Large Market award.

This prize is awarded to the news organization that makes the best use of new media technology in the presentation of its news coverage, based on editorial excellence, design and navigation and engagement.

These are the examples the judges considered:

Christopher Lloyd exposed

For a second year in a row, CBC Montreal won the Dan McArthur Award for multiplatform in-depth/investigative work.

Led by CBC journalist Kate McKenna, the team's winning feature exposed that Christopher Lloyd, the Conservative candidate running against Justin Trudeau, was actually a performance artist who embedded himself inside Stephen Harper's party.

Last year, CBC Montreal won in this category for Remember the 14, a feature on the anniversary of the Polytechnique shooting. The same multiplatform project went on to win a national RTNDA award, as well.

Jacques Parizeau remembered

Roots of the Oka standoff

CBC Montreal's Loreen Pindera was also honoured with the Sam Ross Award for Editorial/Commentary for her radio essay on the 25th anniversary of the Oka crisis, looking back at the roots of the 1990 standoff and its repercussions.

The RTDNA awards honour the best journalists and newsgathering organizations on radio, television and digital platforms across Canada.

The national award winners will be named in June.
