Family homeless after house in Flat Bay left to burn
A mother and her three children are homeless after a suspicious fire burned their house in Flat Bay to the ground Monday evening, and no firefighters came to help.
There isn't a fire department in the west coast community of Flat Bay, and the local service district does not have an agreement with any of the departments in nearby towns.
Frederick Nelma, head of the local service district, said that no fire crews will come to the community if a blaze breaks out.
Although the RCMP were called to the scene on Monday evening, there was nothing they could do to stop the fire.
Nobody was in the house when the fire broke out. Nelma said that the family lost all of their possessions and the house is totally destroyed.
Police say the fire was suspicious in nature and they are investigating.
