Suspicious fire engulfs Wabana business property, apartment

RCMP say a commercial property with an attached apartment in Wabana was extensively damaged in a fire early Sunday morning — it's the latest in a string of suspicious fires on Bell Island.

RCMP say a commercial property with an attached apartment in Wabana was extensively damaged in a fire early Sunday morning.

The incident is the latest in a string of recent fires on Bell Island that police have deemed suspicious in nature. 

The Wabana fire department and the Bell Island RCMP were called to the property around 3:30 a.m.

Police said both buildings were unoccupied at the time and were "heavily engulfed in flames."

No one was living in the apartment at the time, police said, and there was no loss of property.

There were also no injuries as a result of the fire.
